BEST PRACTICES FOR MOTOR CARRIERS ON RESPONSE TO CRASHES

Top 10 accident response tips for trucking companies and drivers

The moment an accident occurs is not the time to put your company’s accident response plan into place. Having an accident response plan in place, including training your dispatchers on the policy, will allow you to act as soon as an accident occurs. The faster you act, the better prepared you can be to prevent a lawsuit or claim, and the better prepared you will be to defend yourself and your driver in the event of a lawsuit. Also, by acting fast and taking a proactive approach, you can potentially save money and litigation fees. Even if a suit is filed, taking a proactive approach gives you the opportunity to collect evidence from the scene, surveillance, statements, or social media evidence to use in your favor at trial.

About our speaker:

Alyssa Adams is a member of the Saxton & Stump Trucking and Commercial Transportation Group, helping tractor-trailer drivers navigate the legal system when they are involved in an accident. She’s worked in defense of the transportation industry for more than 10 years at the former Carlisle, Pa.-based Marcello & Kivisto LLC law firm, a boutique firm that focused entirely on the legal needs of the transportation industry.  Prior to joining Marcello & Kivisto, she worked as a legal intern in two offices of the Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel in Harrisburg. During her final year of law school, she interned for the office’s Insurance Department, working with the state’s Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Act of 2002. She is a graduate of Widener University School of Law, where she placed fourth of 87 classmates. She earned her undergraduate degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated summa cum laude.
