What to Expect: Travel Advisory for Pittsburgh During PMTA’s Annual Membership Conference

As Pittsburgh prepares to host the 2026 NFL Draft from April 23–25, trucking companies operating in and around the region should be aware of significant traffic impacts leading up to and immediately following the event.

The draft is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city, resulting in road closures, restricted access zones, and increased congestion, particularly in and around downtown and the North Shore.

While PMTA’s Annual Membership Conference begins Sunday, April 26, and most major closures are expected to be lifted by that time, both conference attendees and motor carriers traveling through the region may still experience residual impacts.

What This Means for Travel and Operations

The most significant road closures and traffic restrictions will occur during the draft itself, particularly near Acrisure Stadium and Point State Park. However, trucking operations may be affected beyond those dates.

Motor carriers should anticipate:

  • Increased traffic as visitors arrive and depart the city
  • Congestion on major routes, including highways, bridges, and tunnels
  • Limited or restricted access to downtown delivery locations
  • Temporary traffic pattern changes as event infrastructure is set up and removed

Planning Ahead

To minimize disruptions, carriers and drivers are encouraged to:

  • Plan alternate routes when traveling near downtown Pittsburgh
  • Allow extra time for pickups and deliveries in impacted areas
  • Communicate with customers regarding potential delays
  • Monitor local traffic updates and road closure announcements

Looking Ahead

By Sunday, April 26, conditions are expected to improve as the event concludes and the city begins returning to normal operations. However, some minor delays may persist.

For those attending PMTA’s Annual Membership Conference, travel into the city should be manageable, though some residual congestion is possible.

Pittsburgh is well-equipped to handle large-scale events, and we look forward to a smooth and successful conference while encouraging all members to plan accordingly if operating in the region.
