PMTA Member Jeff Mercadante Named Chairman of ATA Safety Management Council


The American Trucking Associations' Safety Management Council has announced its new leadership team following the conclusion of the 2026 Safety, Security & Human Resources National Conference in Oklahoma City, and PMTA is proud to recognize one of its own at the helm.

Jeff Mercadante, Vice President of Safety & Risk at Pitt Ohio and a valued PMTA member and member of our State Board, has been elected Chairman of the SMC for the upcoming term. His appointment reflects a distinguished career dedicated to advancing safety, risk management, and operational excellence within the trucking industry.

Mercadante will lead a strong team of industry professionals, including:

  • Steve Ralston, First Vice Chairman, Director of Transportation Safety & Compliance at Ashley Distribution Services
  • Tim Smith, Second Vice Chairman
  • Donielle Dziedzic, Treasurer, Director of Loss Prevention at A. Duie Pyle

The SMC plays a critical role within ATA, focusing on promoting best practices in safety, fostering innovation, and supporting the professional development of safety leaders across the country.

Mercadante’s leadership comes at a pivotal time for the industry, as fleets continue to navigate evolving regulatory requirements, emerging technologies, and an increased focus on safety performance. His experience and commitment position him well to guide the Council’s efforts in driving meaningful progress.
