PMTA Announces Top 10 Accomplishments of 2024
Each year, ahead of renewal invoices being issued, PMTA shares a list of Top 10 Accomplishments for the year.
1. Welcomed Just Under 200 New Members
In 2024, 179 new members joined PMTA. Increasing membership unites the trucking industry in Pennsylvania and allows PMTA to continue to advocate in Harrisburg.
2. Implemented New Membership Software and Website
These new tools are modernizing the association - ensuring PMTA can grow into the future and provide members better access to recourses. Members can access the InfoHub which houses association materials, past webinars and more. To log in or create an account, visit https://members.pmta.org/MIC/Login.
3. Pennsylvania Senate Passes Resolution Calling for Under-21 Drivers to Operate in Interstate Commerce
Senator Greg Rothman (R-34) introduced the resolution which would allow 18-20 year olds with appropriate training to drive across state lines. This passed with a vote of 31-19 and was sent to Congress. Read more about the resolution HERE.
4. Summa Cum Laude for Safety ATA's State Association Recognition Program
This is the second year PMTA has been awarded this title for the depth and breadth of our safety program led by Director of Safety John Rigney. This is the highest level achievement PMTA could win. PMTA's Safety Management Council (SMC) continues to host monthly meetings featuring speakers delivering a message about important safety updates, technologies or regulations.
5. Over 200 Drivers Registered in the PA Truck Driving Championships
This is the most drivers EVER registered for the state Truck Driving Championships. Pennsylvania's TDC gets bigger and better every year thanks to the support of its sponsors, volunteers and TDC Committee who work hard to ensure this event runs efficiently while treating the drivers and companies for their hard work and commitment to safety.
6. TikTok Explosion - Viral Video at TDC
A single video from PA's TDC received over 130,000 views from around the world. This helps spread PMTA's message of positivity in the trucking industry. PMTA also live streamed the TDC with member CNS Companies. Creating social media initiatives that broaden PMTA's reach brings the association closer to widespread brand and organization recognition.
7. PA Driver Named to America's Road Team
PA Road Team Captain and UPS driver Bernie Wanyo was selected from a rigorous application process to represent the trucking industry at the national level. Bernie will spend the year as a critical component in the American Trucking Associations (ATA) public outreach.
8. Full Week of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW) Events
Each day of NTDAW, PMTA hosted or attended an event giving free food and showing gratitude to truck drivers. PMTA and the PA Turnpike teamed up to host three events at Turnpike Service Plazas. PMTA hosted two events at Sheetz locations during the week. PennDOT also invited PMTA to participate in their outreach Safety Day thanking truck drivers at a rest stop.
9. Created Director of Member Engagement Position
David McCord joined the PMTA staff in August focusing on outreach and building community within the organization. David has spent his first few months on the job getting to know members at events and Chapter Meetings. He is now assisting the AMC Committee, Chapter Relations Committee and Allied Committee.
10. Hosted two Coalition Builds to Help Fight Human Trafficking
PMTA partnered with Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) and the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General to host events educating stakeholders in the transportation industry on how to stop human trafficking. These events underscore the importance of statewide partnerships in making change within the industry. To join the upcoming event in Pittsburgh, click here.
