CMV Equipment Inspections

Description

This specialized Commercial Vehicle Inspection course is designed for managers seeking a solid foundation in vehicle safety compliance and inspection standards. The curriculum provides a clear understanding of FMCSA and DOT regulations, inspection procedures, vehicle classifications, and system-specific checks, including brakes, suspension, engine components, and cargo securement. Fleet managers will learn how to effectively oversee pre-trip, post-trip, and annual inspections, identify common out-of-service violations, and implement sound maintenance and recordkeeping practices. Emphasis is placed on recognizing inspection trends and preventing violations that lead to downtime, enforcement actions, and increased risk exposure. Instruction is delivered through a combination of classroom discussion and hands-on vehicle walk-throughs, with members of the PMTA Road Team assisting in instruction and practical demonstrations. Their real-world inspection experience provides valuable insight into what enforcement personnel look for during roadside inspections. This course equips managers with the knowledge and confidence needed to enforce inspection protocols, reduce equipment-related downtime, and maintain fleet safety and regulatory compliance.


Required Course Material Notice
All attendees must bring a copy of the most recent Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Alliance Out-of-Service (OOS) Criteria to class. This material will be referenced throughout the course.
