Module 2: Driver Management focuses on building effective strategies to recruit, onboard, retain, and support safe, professional drivers. This course examines the full driver lifecycle—from pre-hire screening through long-term engagement—while reinforcing the role of leadership in shaping a strong safety culture. Participants will review best practices for driver recruiting and hiring, including background checks, road testing, and English-language proficiency considerations. The course also addresses orientation and onboarding strategies that align drivers with company expectations, values, and regulatory responsibilities from day one. Emphasis is placed on driver retention, exploring compensation structures, recognition programs, career development pathways, and meaningful engagement initiatives. Attendees will also examine coaching techniques and progressive discipline models to address safety violations constructively while maintaining accountability and consistency. Through interactive exercises, participants will develop a sample driver recruitment and onboarding plan and collaborate in group discussions to design practical retention strategies that align with organizational culture and operational realities. This course is ideal for supervisors, safety professionals, and managers responsible for driver hiring, performance management, and retention. Duration: 8 hours

PMTA Educational Series Overview

The PMTA Educational Series is a structured, six-module professional development program delivered throughout the year. Each module is designed as a stand-alone course, allowing participants to register individually based on their needs and availability.

While modules may be taken independently, maximum benefit is achieved by completing all six modules in sequence, as each builds upon concepts, terminology, and compliance principles introduced in earlier sessions. This progressive format provides the most comprehensive understanding of regulatory compliance, safety management, and operational best practices.

Participation in all six modules is strongly recommended but not required. However, in the event that registration capacity is reached, priority enrollment may be given to participants who have completed previous modules in the series.
